Yoga found its way into Alissa’s life as a way of relieving sore and tight muscles from running and working out. At first it was more about the stretching but soon she found there was more to be offered and began a self-practice as a means to reconnect, to stay balanced, find peace and come back home.
With a passion for the practice, she completed her 200 hour Ashtanga/Vinyasa teacher Training in 2008 with Katie McClelland, of De La Sol Yoga Studios. From then she has been inspired by many amazing teachers, including Christine Felstead, Seane Corne, Yasmin Gow, Shiva Rea and Michelle Cormack. Her biggest teachers on a daily basis have been her husband, David, their son Maxim and English Bulldog, Meatball.
In 2011, Alissa also completed the first Yoga Tune Up Teacher Training held in Canada with Jill Miller. This has brought a physiological approach to her teaching and provided self-care techniques to help reduce pain, improve posture and complement performance. She teaches a variety of styles while focusing on proper alignment, assisting students to reach their full potential in the poses and of course to have fun. Her style mixes a balance of finding strength and length into the poses to help create a balanced mind and body both on and off the mat.
