Alyssa Prettyman

Alyssa Prettyman

In 2004 I herniated a disk in my back and could barely walk or go to work for nearly a month. I was 24 years old and in, what I thought, was "good shape." I went to yoga as a course in pain reduction but quickly found that the strength and "shape" I found myself in in yoga was superior to that delivered by boot camp, running and strapping myself to an elliptical maching for hours on end. By 2006 I was enrolled in a 200 hour program and over the course of the next 12 year found myself drawn towards teachers and educators who strove to refine yoga and movement in the context of modern bodies and postural patterning - and away from the "its been done like this for thousands of years" narrative (because it hasn't). I love the traditional teachings of yoga with regard to the study of the mind, prana and how we can live and be of service in the world. But when it comes to movement and postured - the teachings of Yoga Tune Up and my functional movement training are at the heart of what I believe can help people live with greater dignity and less pain well into their later years. My classes are often a balance of challenging and nourishing, playful and quiet, educational and contemplative - all in the hopes that somewhere in that mix you can find a practice that suits the body you are in today and leave feeling better than you did when you walked in the door.

J’ai reçu ma « Certificate of completion » The Roll Model method en janvier 2021 et « Yoga Tune Up Teacher Certification » en octobre 2022.

My passion for practicing and teaching yoga comes from the desire to help others live a healthier, happier, and more embodied life. It has taught be to be more patient, balanced and mindful in all aspects of my life. in 2007 I enrolled in a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and upon completion, I began teaching classes to my colleagues at work. The experience was the start of a brand new path that brought me back to my home town where I have been teaching since 2008 at various locations. In 2014, I began to focus mainly on workplace wellness, bringing self-care practices to people at work; yoga, self massage, movement, meditation and breath-work. Inspired to offer more to my students, I completed the Yoga Tune Up® Level 1 certification and The Role Model® Method in 2016, and The Breath and Bliss Immersion in 2019. I teach a weekly Yoga Tune Up® class at Juici Yoga in Waterloo.

Hello, there! If you like my perspective on self care, please sign up for my weekly blog -- Become a Self-Care Vigilante -- at http://sni.ps/GetUnstuck  . When you sign up, you get a free e-manifesto that says who I am and what I stand for.  I started yoga as a 50-year-old single mom: a stressed-out, sleep-deprived, achievement junky, suffering from constant pain and headaches. After that first eye-opening yoga class, I immersed myself in yoga, movement, and breath. I did all of Ana Forrest’s trainings, continued studying with Steve Emmerman and Talya Ring and now I’m completely thrilled with the Roll Model Method® and Yoga Tune Up® with Jill Miller and her mighty tribe of extraordinary teachers and trainers.  Strength, breath, and mobility create a pain-free, vital body and this precious body is the starting point for the life you want to live. My classes and workshops help you to go inside; study your body and your breath; and learn that healing is within your grasp.  My blog offers personal stories of healing, studies of what self-care really is, and tips and techniques for living well in your body.  I look forward to connecting with you! Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes it meaningful.   For me, movement variety is all about freedom and choice and we often have to overcome some sort of challenge (big or small) to be able to move in the way that we most desire.   What if I’m not actually here to teach you how to move, or breathe better or relax more deeply? What if my purpose is to teach you how to move through challenge and adversity with ease and grace?   Our ability to move your body in as many ways as possible is deeply rooted in our ability to trust that as we move and grow, no matter what happens or where life takes me, to say, “I got this”. Whatever comes my way, I take it in, feel it, share it, enjoy it or not, and move on having learned from the experience, having grown in new and unimaginable ways. I am more resilient and ready to take on the next challenge.   I’m deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to help so many people become physically strong, energetically vibrant, and emotionally and physically resilient. What does it mean to be resilient? Envision an elastic band that can stretch in many different directions while also easily returning to its original shape with ease. That’s resilience.   Physical and emotional resiliency, this is what I teach.   Like Felix the cat, I have a grab bag of valuable tools from my 30+ years of teaching. My programs are a combination of yoga therapy, breath training, self-massage, guided relaxation and meditation all in the service of helping to cultivate deeper inner listening and awareness.   I do not profess to be a 'healer' but a guide on your path to fine-tuning your ability to lean into the challenges of life, do whatever it takes, then return to center, stronger and more durable for having been through it.   I’m at our side, lighting the path.   How did I get here?   I began my career in fitness while attending a private architecture college in Burbank California in 1990. For many years I taught 6 am fitness classes, went to school during the day, and trained fitness clients in the evening; I taught yoga classes on the weekends. The turning point was when I fell off a stage and was injured while teaching a step class. I was introduced to Pilates in physical therapy. My healing process was the turning point to learning and mastering a variety of movement and healing modalities.   I have more certifications than I can list, but what has influenced my work the most is: my training and certification in Pilates in 1999 with Marie Jose Blum of Long Beach Dance Conditioning; a 300-hour Yoga Therapy Certification from Dr. Ganesh Mohan of Svastha Yoga; and Roll Model Method & Yoga Tune Up with Jill Miller. I’m also certified in various styles of yoga including, Hatha, Pre-natal, Vinyasa, Yin, Wailana Yoga, and SOMA breath work. Over the years, I have taught dozens of 200-hour yoga teacher training courses (US and overseas) and authored and taught anatomy courses for other teacher training programs. In 2013 I graduated with an Associates of Science in Advanced Massage Therapy and opened my third yoga, Pilates, and massage studio in Fair Oaks, California. I eventually sold that studio in 2018 to travel overseas and train massage therapists and yoga teachers.   Currently, I live in Hawaii where I see massage clients, teach transformational workshops and movement labs; both online and offline, for those looking to nurture their bodies and nervous system through self-massage, movement, and accountability coaching.

Ashley Vasas

Ashley Vasas

I’m Ashley Vasas (she/her), a yoga teacher and founder of Nourish & Grow Yoga, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.    I'm passionate about sharing the power of yoga movement and philosophy to help my students open themselves up to vibrant health, joy, and self-compassion.    After experiencing a severe car accident, I remember finding myself bloated, burnt out, and in chronic pain, knowing something had to change. I reached for yoga as a low-impact fitness option and found a far more potent practice.   Though my yoga practice ebbed and flowed, I kept returning to the mat. With time and consistency, my body became stronger and more limber, and I realized I was living with much less pain.    And that is what led me to become a teacher — I wanted to share this fantastic vibrancy with others. I have studied several yoga modalities to offer my students whatever their unique body needs, including Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Pre-and Post-natal, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Yoga Tune Up®. I’ve poured more than 500 hours into my yoga education studies, earning my RYT 500 from Yoga Alliance in 2022.   I help my students discover their potential through yoga, meditation, and self-love. I work with people of all ages, flexibility, and physical fitness levels. I believe that yoga, in its many forms, has something to offer everyone.
