In my 3 decades in the fitness industry, I’ve encountered thousands of students who have suffered from low back pain. Statistically speaking, you are an outlier if you’ve never had it. Some live with it every day, and for others it comes and goes and for some it manifests as confounding sciatic pain. At the mention of the quadratus lumborum or psoas on social media, my inbox is filled with questions. I’ve designed this class to hopefully provide some anatomical education, rolling application and strengthening strategies so that you are better prepared to help yourself or a loved one in the face of low back pain.
After doing the Low Back Tune Up class, we recommend you also do the following class from the Library:
You could choose any core/spine based class to do after the Low Back Class. The Plank is particularly excellent as it demands you locate an efficient and optimal relationship between your ribcage and pelvis- which is, of course, the low back.
In this series of MOVE, BREATHE, ROLL – The Logical/Mythological Series, Jill focuses on common myths and misperceptions of practice that still persist in yoga and movement classrooms today. Each class tackles a myth that unrolls like a sticky mat when you filter it through anatomy, kinesiology and physiology. Join Jill on this fun myth-busting journey that also translates into other popular movement forms including pilates, CrossFit and Instagram Inspo. Each class will attempt to unpack a myth from a historical/contextual lens and take you through Tune Up Fitness movement practices that help your body to be a lab of curiosity and discovery.
